Indicating no let-up in the spurt of crime, five masked robbers looted a house in Chambal village on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday after locking up the family members in a room. The family members were asleep when the robbers barged into the house.

Santokh Singh, head of the family, who woke up saw household articles scattered in the courtyard and raised an alarm upon which his daughter-in-law and sister also were awakened from sleep.

Meanwhile, the masked robbers who were in search of valuables came out. They threatened the family members with weapons asking them not to raise an alarm.

While the family members were locked up inside a room, one of the robbers kept watch on their activities. The remaining three searched the almirahs and other boxes for valuable articles.

Santokh Singh said the robbers searched the house for three hours and went away scot-free with the robbed articles.

The robbers loot cash worth Rs 4,000, gold ornaments of about half tola and a Rado watch. The robbers took the DVR of the CCTV camera while fleeing. Santokh Singh said since his son is settled abroad, the robbers must have thought that the family must have had huge cash and gold reserves.

Inspector Sukhbir Singh, Station House Officer Sarhali, said that a case under Section 457, 380, 342, 506, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code had been registered and further investigation had been initiated.

The police was scanning the CCTV footage to look for clues and make a breakthrough in the case, the SHO added.
